Notion Tutorial: Utilizing Notion Templates

Notion, a versatile workspace tool, offers a plethora of templates to help users get started swiftly. With over 50 ready-to-use templates available, users can customize them based on their specific needs. This includes five ‘default templates’ that are already present in your workspace. The article provides a video demonstration on how to utilize these templates effectively.(Videos are only available to paid subscribers)

Adding and Removing Default Templates

When you first sign up for Notion, the sidebar will display five default templates. These are chosen based on the information you provided during the registration process. You can add them to your workspace for further editing or removal.

  • To add a default template to your workspace, click on the ‘+’ sign on the left. A template selector will pop up, allowing you to click on the ‘Use This Template’ button.
  • To remove a default template, hover over the template and click on the ‘Hide’ text that appears on the right.

Finding and Using Templates

You can access the template library at any time.

Above ‘Import’ and ‘Trash’ in the sidebar, there’s a shortcut to open the template library. When creating a page, Notion also offers you the option to use a template. Both of these will open a template library selector categorized by work type. In the selector window, you can explore the templates and understand how they function before deciding to use them. Click on ‘Use This Template’ to add it to your workspace.

Every template comes with usage instructions in two ways:

  • For databases, the instructions are at the top of the page. You can hide them by hovering at the top and clicking ‘Hide Description’. They can be reopened by clicking on the ‘i’ icon.
  • For pages, instructions are scattered throughout in the form of annotations. They can be removed just like any content block.

Tip: The official Notion team also provides a template gallery for users worldwide, featuring dozens of templates.
